Taylor Automotive Family Donates $1 Million for Cancer Research

The Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers and Taylor Automotive family recently announced the formation of the Taylor Cancer Research Center.

This not-for-profit clinical research program will benefit all cancer patients in Northwest Ohio.

The Taylor Automotive family donated $1 million to assist in facilitating innovative cancer treatments to patients that are currently unavailable in the region. The family presented the Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers at a press conference and check presentation event on Thursday, Jan. 18.

The center will bring Precision Therapy to the Northwest Ohio region. According to the Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers, Precision therapy specifically targets mutated DNA which causes cancer growth. The center will continue and expand research on the Precision therapy treatment.

“The Taylor Automotive family has a deep legacy of philanthropy in Toledo. We have given to multiple charitable causes in Northwest Ohio. Julie and I always believed that we were greatly blessed, and we have always felt the need to share these blessings with our community. I wanted to show my appreciation to Dr. Tim Kasunic who cared for Julie, my wife and matriarch of our family throughout her cancer journey in a way which honors her generous spirit,” Steve Taylor from the Taylor Automotive family said. “When we were introduced to Dr. John Nemunaitis and were able to review the tremendous accomplishments he has made in cancer research at other major cancer centers, we felt fortunate to have his expertise available in our community. We are excited to bring the same type of precision-driven therapies that are currently available in other large cities across the United States to Toledo and the Northwest Ohio region.”

According to the Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers, over 100 Precision cancer therapies have been approved by the FDA in the last 10 years and others are being used for experimental Precision therapy through clinical trials.

The primary research center will be held in the brand new, state-of-the-art Toledo Clinic Cancer Centers building in Maumee, 1200 Medical Center Parkway. Therapies will also be offered at the Toledo location, 4126 N. Holland-Sylvania Road, Ste. 105.

“Our mission is to expand our current clinical trial research program and to now provide more cutting edge treatment close to home so that Toledo region patients can receive nationally acclaimed therapy without having to leave the area. We will welcome patients from other nearby cancer centers to benefit from ongoing trials we have available, and we will be reaching out to our colleagues at other cancer centers in the region, also encouraging their participation,” Dr. Rex Mowat, the managing partner for the Toledo Clinic Cancer Center said.
